Beechworth is history, amazing food and wines.
Beechworth is an easy three hours from Melbourne and is a great stop-over between Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra or as a destination for a short break.
With more than 32 buildings listed by the National Trust, Beechworth is Victoria’s best preserved historic gold mining town. The solid local granite buildings are hauntingly reminiscent of the days when the streets rang with the clamour and excitement of the quest for gold. More than four million ounces of gold was found from 1852. This heritage is celebrated on the Indigo Vineyard wine labels with the gold foil a tribute to a rich past and the regions winemaking history dating back to the Gold Rush.
You will find fabulous food, superb wines and craft beer. Discover locally grown fruit, vegetables, honey, nuts, berries and apples. You can visit the courthouse where Ned Kelly was tried and you can visit the cell where he was held and see the gaol where he and his mother were imprisoned. Walk around a lunatic asylum or a gorge, ride a bike, enjoy really good coffee, indulge in some boutique shopping or simply wander and relax.
Beechworth is a place with four real seasons - rich colours in autumn, frosty winter mornings, beautiful colours in heritage gardens in spring and clear summer days.
The Indigo Vineyard mountain bike trail follows our country road. Meander from the cellar door 4 km to our hidden vineyard. At the vineyard, take a rest and enjoy the scenery. BYO bike or hire at the cellar door. Enjoy your ride.
